Hi, I’m Joe Davitt and here is my story:

I sent a letter to an entire 67 people who had a birthday in January. Within 2 days we had 41 bookings. Funnily enough a large percentage was the clients of the hairdresser that had just left.
The girls asked me what I did as the phone was ringing off the wall.
Then I thought I will send a belated birthday letter to the December clients.
There was 34 letters I sent our and we got 18 bookings within 3 days.
I know all this as I keep marketing records of everything that works and doesn’t work.
This got me to thinking.
If I can come up with an offer that keeps the clients I paid for when I bought the business we would be ok.
So I created a customer loyalty program and sent it to my entire database which was a total of 345 names. There were 558 names on the cards system but 213 were no good (I would like to say something else but I won’t).
I made an offer in the letter for a 12 month membership.
Then I waited the first day, nothing, the 2nd day nothing, I thought what have I done wrong.
On the third day we got 34 people who became a member, 4th day another 12 became a member the 5th day which was a Thursday we got another 59 people and Friday we got another 27 people.
Now you have to remember we only have 345 name and we got just over a third of them joining as loyalty members.
The following week in total we had another 97. So in effect we had 229 loyalty members each paying wait for it. $175 each. That was $40,075 in say 2-3 weeks maximum.
What did the $175 give them? The pleasure of being a member of your loyalty programs, also a lot of benefits and the exciting part is:
IT DID NOT EFFECT OUR WEEKLY TURNOVER. SO THE $40,075 TO US WAS LIKE A LUMP SUM PAYMENT.
(another story but the hairdresser who left abused me for keeping her clients – I politely told her if she was as good as she thought she they would have followed her).
But the secret here that will work for you too is you will not be held to ransom by your staff any longer. If they want to go they can go. But send out letters straight away so she does not poach them.
To also let you know we sold the salon for twice what we paid for it just because I showed the new owner what they would get for there money.
Went through the marketing package that I created and showed her the results.
She bought the salon on the spot subject to me giving her the package and she had been in hairdressing for over 20 years. So it just goes to show we can all learn something from each other.
